Almost a quarter billion women in the developing world want to prevent pregnancy and need modern contraception. Most live in countries where contraceptives are under-funded and under-prioritized. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) helps fill the gaps by providing life-saving supplies. UNFPA also provides sexual and reproductive care and supplies in humanitarian emergencies such as wars and natural disasters. But the agency is now facing a crisis: Nearly 40% shortfall in its 2016 budget for contraceptives.
