Following President George W. Bush’s reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy restrictions on international family planning in 2001, a diverse group of U.S. nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) came together to document the impact of the policy on family planning services. Research was conducted in four countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Romania and Zambia) to assess whether and how the restrictions have affected women’s access to contraception and related reproductive health care. This document summarizes the major research findings as of mid-2003, and includes selected country examples.
