We’re not making this up. Believe it or not, people said (and meant!) these things, in public, in the not-so-distant past.

“Artificial birth control is unnatural and immoral.”

“If I thought that the man’s signature was required in order for a woman to have an abortion, I’d have a little more peace about it.”

“If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.”

Excuse me, what? They may seem outrageous, but as this video from the National Women’s Law Center points out, these types of statements about reproductive health are no laughing matter. They are unacceptable, and sadly exist both overseas as well as here in the United States.

These attitudes are dangerous, especially when they are held by some lawmakers. Need more proof? In just the first week of the 114th Congress, anti-choice politicians have already introduced five bills restricting abortion access.
