They are 1.1 billion strong, and getting loud.

Yet 70 million are not in school.

Six million face adolescent pregnancies.

And countless more are vulnerable, at-risk, or denied basic rights and opportunities to plan their futures.

More than half of the world’s young people ages 10-24 live in the Asia-Pacific region, and last week they made their presence known at the 7th Asia-Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights. The conference brought 2,000 delegates from across region to Manila, to talk strategy for positioning reproductive health in the post-2015 development.

The neglect of youth reproductive health and rights was a huge focus at the conference, and needs to remain so. Young people are critical to the region’s development, but they face many challenges.
